Why read it?
4 authors picked The Future as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
Alderman is already a favorite of mine with her mindblowing novel The Power--but this book is especially prescient--it assumes that so many of the world's problems are a result of wealth amassing at the top in the form of greedy billionaires, and capitalism run amok, that puts profits ahead of people, the environment and many forms of social justice. One of the most satisfying reads I've had in a while. I want to live in the worlds Alderman creates.
A thought-provoking book about a recognisable world and how we might get worse or better as a society/planet. Also, read right till the very very end!
This was great fun reading The Future. From page 1, its originality and world-building were excellent. Surprising twists and turns in this story of billionaires endeavoring to escape the end of the world.

Is tech a science? Close enough.
I was on my way home from the grocery store, and I heard Naomi Alderman in an interview about this, her latest book, on NPR’s All Things Considered. It's a good thing I didn’t buy ice cream that day because I sat in the car in the driveway, listening until the end. Hearing her, I knew I had to read the book. And when I did, I couldn’t put it down (the reading equivalent of sitting in the driveway listening to the radio?).
Populated with extraordinary characters, from genuinely good to incredibly greedy, this…
From D.J.'s list on fiction books where science plays a main character.
