Will I love The End of the World Running Club?

This is the book that got me into reading apocalyptic fiction – I was completely captured by the story of an unfit father stuck at the other end of the country from his family after an apocalyptic event, his only option was running the length of the UK to make it to them.

Edgar’s realisations about the kind of father he’s been and the emotional and physical transformation he undergoes kept me up into the early hours. There are heart-in-mouth moments, bleak landscapes filled with threat, and a sucker punch of an ending – perfect.

I loved this book because it smashed every expectation I had of post-apocalyptic fiction.

The characters felt so real; Grimes is a badass soldier without fanfare, Bryce is unexpectedly tender, and Edgar is a flawed, fascinating antihero. It left me exhilarated, like I’d run across the country with them myself.

Adrian J. Walker takes you on a scenic adventure across England as his characters struggle to survive a world-ending meteor strike. I love this story as it hits all the elements of a great story: love, struggle, adventure, survival, humor, horror, and drama!

Why would I recommend this book? Because you can’t help but wonder if you’d do the same thing as the protagonist. You can’t help but empathize with him.
