About 10 years ago, I wanted to read some of the classics that we used to read in grade school. Out of all the books that I read, The Count of Monte Cristo was the hardest to put down.
This is a page-turner! It is completely engaging and fast-moving. I put it on this list because it explores the danger of purpose without a moral compass or wisdom. Dantès survives by giving himself a mission, but as vengeance becomes his identity, his meaning erodes.
