Will I love Somewhere in Time?

I read this years ago and recently listened to the audiobook to revisit it. It’s a fascinating character study, listening to the voice of Richard Collier, a man dying of a brain tumor, and his journey embracing the concept of time travel. Sometimes, listening to his struggles felt like a Poe story questioning his sanity in the grips of his obsession, and, at other times, it was like getting a crash course in Esoteric Arts as he did.

Matheson is another master, whose works are almost forgotten now. This novel employs another unique means of travel—putting yourself in a period setting and just wishing hard enough, or through auto-hypnosis. That is not terribly credible, but then neither is time travel itself. And like several of the other books I value here, this is a love story with the characters making some hard choices. And once again, something from the present plays an important role.
