It was as if a mass awakening were taking place that queasily asserted: just because you fed the dude a piece of white-slicked cake, he doesn’t have the right to cause you to put on makeup because you have a black eye or wear long sleeves on hot August days, or give in to sex whenever he’s in the mood.
