This book was not what I expected at all, in the sense that it's a collection of stories that can stand alone but are all part of the larger world and that all tie back together. Even though the novel isn't a linear flow like I expected, the author held the fictional world together very well and moved smoothly between the individual stories. The characters truly felt like real people that the reader gets to know.
