Yes, I'm recommending the same author and another book in the series but I had to. I have a thing for badass female vampires. This book gave me just that. Anne Rice is by far my greatest writer when it comes to vampires. The way she describes things puts you inside the character's minds and the way they feel. It’s seductive and spicy. Queen of the Damned features Akasha, the mother of all vampires and boy does she deliver as a badass, unapologetic, fearless, and the original boss lady of fantasy. There is no redeeming Akasha but that is what makes her so intriguing, she takes no prisoners her motivation is power and lust. If she was written as a man, it would have been the usual power trope but as a woman, Rice places a different spin on gender roles in the genre. You love to hate Akasha. This is amazingly different from the first two books (Interview with a Vampire and The Vampire Lestat) of The Vampire Chronicles. Several new characters are introduced, a number of truly old vampires we have only heard of up until now become part of the action, and the story is woven together into a mosaic much wider in scope than what has come before.
