Why read it?

2 authors picked On Talking Terms with Dogs as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

This book had a huge impact on me many years ago when I started training Psychiatric Service Dogs. Turid opened my eyes to a complex understanding of how dogs communicate with us through subtle and not-so-subtle body language. I recommend this book highly to all of my friends that have dogs and my clients. You will learn to identify when your dog is stressed, how to recognize it, and then take appropriate action to help decrease and alleviate the dog’s stress.

This is the book that completely changed the way I interacted with dogs. I read it during the infancy of my dog training career and it opened my eyes to the micro-communications that dogs have with one another (and us!) that can show us exactly how they’re feeling. A must-read for every pet parent who wants to better understand what their dog is saying. (Hint: that waggy tail might not mean your dog is happy!)

From Victoria's list on dog training and behavior.
