"One of the most daring, provocative, unnervingly intimate thrillers I've read in years. Few writers besides Ruth Rendell and Patricia Highsmith can evoke…
Why read it?
2 authors picked My Husband as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
This sophisticated, darkly humorous, and quirky short novel, translated from the French, is unlike anything else I have ever read.
The narrator is still obsessed with her husband after many years of marriage. She smothers him with devotion, and her demands for proof of his love eventually go too far. The story becomes quite farcical in places.
I suspect some readers would hate this book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
From Jennifer's list on novels about the psychology of marriage.
This book is completely absorbing and immersive. You are taken deep into the psyche of a very unusual character, but you can see the places that her very warped thinking resonates with your own. There is a very powerful ending I did not see coming that blew me away, which I also loved. The translation into English is also excellent, if you are familiar with the way French people speak you will hear echoes of it in the language and wording, which I think preserves the flavor of the original text.
