Will I love Manhunt?

As a horror writer and reader, I usually think I have a high tolerance when it comes to the genre. Then, I read Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin.

This timely story is visceral and disturbing. Just about all my friends and family knew when I was reading this book because of my constant updates on how this wild post-apocalyptic book developed.

I love gore and emotional resonance, and this book delivers both by the bucketful. It’s well known as one of the gnarliest horror novels in recent memory, but what sometimes gets lost in the conversation is that it’s also one of the most poignant.

I can never resist a story whose central queer relationship is a friendship instead of a romance, and Beth and Fran’s friendship is deliciously fraught with desire, resentment, and the need to trust each other in order to survive in a post-apocalyptic hellscape. While at first glance it may seem a bit on the nose, I couldn't put it down. The horror aspects are handled brilliantly and the characters are as flawed as they are strong.
