I both loved and was horrified by this collection of stories about almost 24 people who do not fit Xi’s mold of the Chinese citizen.
A human rights lawyer, members of oppressed minorities, and others all contend with the PRC’s suppression apparatus, the most advanced surveillance system ever known, reinforced by the social credit system. I don’t know the full details of this system, but it involves state surveillance of everything ranging from your driving habits and credit score to whether you listen to Xi Jinping Thought for the required 15 minutes per day.
