I read this book when it came out in 2007. For a long time, it was my favorite Dean Koontz novel, so I decided to reread it. Koontz has a way of catching my attention from the opening lines and never letting me go. The way he takes the reader inside the villain's head is fabulous. Although the technique dates back to Jane Austen, I had never seen it before. Koontz's word-craft is always beautiful and evocative and a pleasure to read.
