Why read it?

3 authors picked Frog and Toad Together as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

There is something so charming about these two best friends. I remember pouring over their quirky tales as a small child. I loved it so much! Arnold Lobel’s masterpiece is perfectly woven with immersive watercolor pictures and hilarious, yet simple text, that even our littlest readers can grasp. It introduces the concept of personality vividly in the differences between Frog and Toad, and all in all, is one of the best ever for capturing a young imagination.

From Charline's list on that capture children’s imaginations.

The Frog and Toad books are my favorite picture books. Each book has five stories and one story is certainly long enough for bedtime reading. However, sometimes bedtime is a drawn-out affair and it is nice to have more stories at your disposal. My favorite books are usually the ones that describe a place so inviting that I want to live there. Frog and Toad’s little world is that for sure. It is a quiet cozy world where the problems are small, the landscape is green and leafy and friendship is abundant. I love to settle into it every time.

From Kenneth's list on bedtime books for young children.

I didn’t read these stories until I was an adult; a dad actually. My wife loves them and we read them to our son at night when he was first born. The story ‘Cookies’, in which Frog and Toad try to stop themselves from eating too many cookies, has a special meaning for my wife and her friends from college. I’ve always admired my wife’s genuine and wonderful friendships, and to me, this book symbolizes what friendship is really about: having someone to eat too many cookies with.
