My father gave me a copy of this book when I was in 6th grade and it introduced the world of natural science to me. This was the first in a series of volumes that collected his monthly essays written for Natural History magazine.

Gould has an eye for unusual scientific phenomena that illuminate a deeper truth about the relationship between humanity and the natural world. He was not afraid to tackle moral issues, such as eugenics and the science of IQ, recognizing the importance of the popular scientist as more than just a translator.

The ideas in this book are exciting, interesting, and thought-provoking. It is clearly written with great enthusiasm. It presents fresh, novel perspectives.

The author is very well-informed and brings in historical and other facts that make the essays exceptionally fun and interesting. I learned a good deal, and my creativity was enhanced by the new perspectives and ideas. The essays are on evolution and natural history.

Ever Since Darwin is a compilation of essays Gould published in the magazine Natural History. The beauty of the book for me is its multifarious subject matter. He writes of biological and socio-political oddities—from matricidal flies, whose young, conceived without a father, eat their mother from the inside, to anthropocentric bias.
