Why read it?

3 authors picked DragonSpell as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

DragonSpell follows a freed slave named Kale who delves into a world of magic, wizards, and dragons when she discovers a clutch of small dragon eggs. She’s sent to rescue a meech dragon egg stolen by the evil Wizard Risto and must find the reclusive Wizard Fenworth to do so. Along the way, some of the dragon eggs hatch into tiny dragons who have special abilities of their own. Their antics alone are enough to keep the pages turning, much less the dramatic adventure and delightful cast of characters accompanying her.

From Cy's list on sassy non-human sidekicks.

Although published in the 21st century, DragonSpell has the feel of an old-fashioned fairytale. The creativity of the author is on display with the many original races in her fantastical land (none of which are called “human”). I admire how Paul isn’t shy about her Christian faith. Not only does her world feature a deity named Wulder who is much like the God of the Bible, but we also meet a Christ-like character named Paladin. Evil is no match for him, but he still sends out his servants to play their part. His wise, kind, and loving nature are familiar…

Kale, a slave girl finds a dragon egg and embarks on a journey to become a servant to Paladin. On her journey, she meets encounters danger and makes friends that help her.

She learns the value of friendship while she struggles to discover the eternal truth. The world and the creatures that inhabit it make for an exciting backdrop to Kale’s journey. She finds her strength and builds on her faith as she travels to Paladin.

From Christina's list on dragons with a Christian message.
