This is one of my favorite books with respect to a postmaterialist view of mind/consciousness.
Dr. Pim van Lommel is an internationally renowned cardiologist and one of the foremost experts in the field of near-death experiences (NDEs). In this landmark book, he presents scientific evidence showing that even when people are clinically dead, they can still experience clear thinking, accurate perception, and enhanced memory.
This strongly suggests that consciousness can even be experienced separate from the physical body.
From Mario's list on The best books on the new science of consciousness.
