Will I love Close to Death?

You can’t beat a good mystery, and Close to Death certainly provides that. It is the fifth book in Horowitz’s Hawthorne series, a deftly plotted tale of dark goings on in a gated community where (of course) everyone has something to hide. Former detective Daniel Hawthorne is a fantastic creation, a character surrounded by mysteries as intriguing as the cases he investigates. What I particularly like about the series is that there’s an over-arching plot (the puzzle of Hawthorne himself), and Horowitz has written himself in as a character which makes for an entertaining and at times laugh-out loud read.… show more.

Well, it's Horowitz so what more is there to say? His Moonflower Murders are good, but I like his Hawthorne mysteries more. They're so sly. Horowitz writes himself into the story as a rather dense protagonist author and then proceeds to mix fact and fiction as his main detective Hawthorne takes over the solution to a murder mystery. Through it all, the author is having us on. Clever writing but solid plot, and all really fun.
