Why read it?

3 authors picked Chariots of the Gods as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

I read this book a long time ago and went back to it again as it is so revolutionary and quite startling for its time (1968). His theories were often laughed at, but he has been hugely vindicated by later discoveries. I think he was a very brave man to write this book, addressing one of the greatest mysteries of all—how we became civilized.

This might seem like an odd choice, but I’m recommending Chariots of the Gods because, while technically a non-fiction book, it turns our own ancient history into sci-fi! My mother, of all people, gave me my first copy of this book in high school, thus starting my lifelong fascination with the ancient astronaut theory. I’ve never been able to look at a pyramid the same way since!

From Dylan's list on sci-fi to pique your sense of wonder.
