Why read it?

8 authors picked Can't Hurt Me as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

I love this book. As an avid reader and self-improvement enthusiast, this has been the most transformative book I've read. Goggins' honesty and drive for greatness touched me deeply. His journey from a troubled past to a Navy SEAL and ultra-endurance athlete is inspiring and motivating me to face my own limits.

The book's simple language and layout make the story accessible to more readers while maintaining its power. Goggins' story helps me embrace discomfort, confront fears, and build a strong mindset, changing my view on what I can achieve.

If you want a FIRE lit under your ass, read this book!

I love this book so much and have reread this one a couple of times because of the sheer injection of motivation I get straight into my veins when I read it. What I love about this first memoir from David is his brutal honesty about his childhood and his subsequent journey to become “the baddest motherfucker on the planet.”

This guy is the quintessential story of polishing a terd long enough, you will get a diamond. Whenever I am feeling sorry for myself, my mind goes back…

From Stephanie's list on badass people who overcame crazy odds.

I’ve always been someone with big goals and driven to do more, but after listening to this book, I realized that I was setting my sights too low.

What I love about his story and message is that no matter where you start, there is always an opportunity for greatness. I think this is especially important to remember in retirement – it’s not the finish line. You’re just getting started.

If you are looking for that something more and want to be inspired, this book is an absolute must. The story is about retired Navy SEAL David Goggins, and…

Goggins' life story is truly remarkable - he went from being a depressed, overweight exterminator to becoming one of the world's fittest athletes and a decorated U.S. Navy SEAL.

His book is not just a memoir, but also a guide to developing mental toughness and resilience. Goggins' writing is raw and honest, and he shares the brutal realities of his struggles with racism, poverty, and physical injury.

His book has personally helped me to push through my own mental barriers and to adopt a more disciplined and purpose-driven approach to life.

David Goggins writes in a very enjoyable way while showing you what is capable and what the human body can overcome. His story is incredible and compelling. You can’t feel anything but motivated after reading this book. David will challenge you to be your best and eliminate any thought of creating excuses for your failure. Because he shares his life story with his struggles and success it makes it so easy to relate to and impossible to dismiss. Easily one of the best books I have ever read, and a book I suggest to anyone looking to become the best…

Can’t Hurt Me is a book about becoming mentally tough. As a real estate investor bad things happen all the time and it helps to understand that and almost build a mental callus so it doesn’t impact you. Without the ability to move on from evictions, breaking water heaters, plumbing issues, etc. you can go nuts and not accomplish your goals.

Book cover of The Guardian of the Palace

The Guardian of the Palace by Steven J. Morris,

The Guardian of the Palace is the first novel in a modern fantasy series set in a New York City where magic is real—but hidden, suppressed, and dangerous when exposed.

If you secretly always wanted to become a superhero, this book is for you. In his autobiography, David Goggins shares the story of how he went from an obese, undisciplined man to a globally-recognized icon of mental toughness and self-discipline. Through his fascinating stories (and raw language) you’ll learn how choosing to do what’s hard can forge you into a new person. I’ve found this book inspiring because David doesn’t sugarcoat things and is a powerful example of how much we can accomplish if we refuse to identify ourselves as victims. Whenever I feel weak, I ask myself what would…

David Goggins has lived a life that most of us never will. This book is real, and it’s raw. As Goggins’s said himself, “don’t just talk about it, be about it.” I read a lot of books that are carefully worded and written in a way that being politically correct supersedes the truth. This is a no-holds-barred look at the grit, tenacity, and mental fortitude that is built when a person decides to change.

From John's list on inspiration.
