Book description

For twelve-year-old Emily, the best thing about moving to San Francisco is that it's the home city of her literary idol: Garrison Griswold, book publisher and creator of the online sensation Book Scavenger (a game where books are hidden in cities all over the country and clues to find them…

Why read it?

4 authors picked Book Scavenger as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

I love how this book has a game theme but isn’t limited to a specific location. Instead, the main characters travel throughout San Francisco to compete in Book Scavenger (a game where books are hidden in cities all over the country and clues to find them are revealed through puzzles). The reader can play along and there is a deeper mystery to solve—who attacked the game’s creator and can the culprit be caught before another attack is made?

As much about friendship as it is about solving puzzles, Book Scavenger definitely has heart. One thing I especially love about this story is how each character uses their unique personality to help solve the big mystery while at the same time proving their loyalty when things get rough. Sure, you assume that the main character, Emily, will solve the clues before the bad guys do, but the best stories give us a glimpse of true character and heart. They make us wish we could be so lucky to fall into such a fun mystery, but also give us hope…

Instead of Willy Wonka’s candy hunt, Garrison Griswold created a game called Book Scavenger, where books are hidden all over the country. But when Griswold is attacked, Emily and James follow cryptic clues to a missing book—and a dangerous thief. I love books where BOOKS are part of the mystery. And I enjoyed the San Francisco setting, having visited there many times. Book Scavenger is an exciting ride through pages!
