Bitter Medicine is the book you read when you want to have big feelings in a new and exciting world.

In this romantic contemporary fantasy, Elle, whose magic works through calligraphy, is hiding herself away from a treacherous relative, and Luc, a dangerous man who’s done dangerous things, has given up on trying to disentangle himself from a boss who asks too much.

The magical universe Tsai creates is both familiar and fresh, and I loved Lus and Elle together and was on the edge of my seat when it seemed they’d be kept apart.
