This is the first book in a hilarious chapter book series that deals with facing your fears in a fun, kid-friend way. Alvin, who is afraid of everything from girls to elevators and especially school, channels his inner superhero, Firecracker Man, to brave the outside world. This book is great for both beginning and reluctant readers. I loved watching Alvin conquer his fears and transform into Firecracker Man!
From Laurie's list on The best laugh-out-loud chapter books.
Second-grader Alvin Ho is afraid of everything. Not even carrying around a Personal Disaster Kit—packed with a whistle, Band-Aids, dental floss, a magnifying glass, a scary mask, and other necessary items—can ease his overwhelming anxiety. Nervous kids are sure to relate to Alvin’s misadventures, but this book has more to offer than a realistic take on a child’s fears. It’s also very funny! Of the books I read when plotting my own chapter book series, this one made me laugh the most.
From Kathryn's list on The best early chapter books about big feelings.
