I actually borrowed this book from a friend while looking for new additions to the reading list I usually recommend to my class on advanced development dynamics in Africa. Its focus on debunking the tendency towards a one-picture Africa is very apt!

I found this book quite interesting as it addresses the often-forgotten diversity of Africa as a continent (not a country or holistic geopolitical entity) in international discourse. But while calling attention to this impressive diversity, it discusses Africa’s challenges both internally and the external roots of some of these challenges as well as the potentials of the continent…
