My favorite read in 2026

Kat Miller ❤️ loved this book because...

I enjoy horror and sci-fi, so a horror time-loop plot? Brilliant! I loved the quippy, sassy style, the millennial angst, and the hopeful message - although that was laid on a bit thick at the end. But what I loved most was the creativity - so many different scenarios! Very enjoyable, as long as you don't mind a bit of gore.

What is this book about?

Every wedding guest’s worst nightmare is on repeat in this wild and twisty new horror novel from the New York Times bestselling author of So Thirsty and Play Nice.

It’s the picture-perfect wedding weekend: The venue is dreamy, the weather is beautiful, love is in the air—and Willa Sullivan is having a bad time. She’s excited to celebrate her best friends’ finally having the big wedding they’ve always wanted, but this is the first time she’s seen her ex-fiancé in months, and he brought a date. Everything feels off, like she stumbled into an alternate universe. But things start to…

My 2nd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of The Eagle and the Hart

Kat Miller 👍 liked this book because...

This book surprised me. I only picked it up because it was on display at the library and it covered the time period of a couple of Shakespeare plays I've seen, Richard II and Henry IV Part 1. It turned out to provide a fascinating portrait of those two men from childhood to manhood (and kinghood), and a clear picture of European geopolitics in the fourteenth century (one of the most interesting centuries in history). I was also surprised by how fragile the life of the nobility felt, with children effectively held hostage for their parents, or sent abroad to marry when they would still be in primary school in our time, or orphaned because of the political wranglings. An eye-opening book.

**THE TELEGRAPH'S BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR 2024**

'A glorious work of history... a gripping and haunting tragedy... There was no book published this year, novels included, that I found richer in character; no plot more taut' - Tom Holland, The Spectator

'A dazzling tour de force of epic royal history: a compulsive, unputdownable real-life thriller, a gripping portrait of ruthless power politics, and a study of British tyranny ... written with the delicacy and elegance of one of Britain's most brilliant historians at the top of her game' - Simon Sebag-Montefiore

'If ever a book of history was blessed…

My 3rd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of Wrinkles

Kat Miller 👍 liked this book because...

Graphic novels can sometimes do things that text novels can't, and this book uses that ability from the first page, when you appear to be in an office, but it turns out to be only the main character's perception of the situation. This is a very sad book, where the main character is fighting against something that can't be fought - dementia. There are a number of interesting characters. One of them seems like a wrong-un, but after experiencing his life for a while you have more sympathy for his approach to it. This isn't the first book I've read from the perspective of a dementia sufferer (Still Alice is very good) but it was a fresh take on it.

What is this book about?

Admitted to a home for the elderly because he suffers from Alzheimer's disease, for Ernest community life feels like an ordeal. But soon he accepts his new environment and decides to fight to escape from giving in to his awful destiny. For the author, the human community is like a library where books are piled up in mountains populated by yellowing paper of dreams and fantasies.

The Sarcophagus Scroll

By Kat Miller ,

What is my book about?

Someone described this in a review as "a witty, bookish mystery where you can almost smell the sea air", and I don't think I can do better than that! It's a mystery thriller set in St Andrews, and while there's plenty of derring do and deadly peril, it's also kind of a love letter to St Andrews and academia.
