Book cover of Culpability

Galina Vromen ❀️ loved this book because...

I loved this book because it combined spectacular writing, with a thought-provoking bigger idea on the ethics of AI. It was well-paced with drama and a moving plot, and the characters were well-defined and interesting. I also enjoyed the untypical family structure (ambitious wife, home-creating father) and how that was depicted tenderly in its complexity.

My 2nd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of The Daughters of Yalta: The Churchills, Roosevelts, and Harrimans: A Story of Love and War

Galina Vromen ❀️ loved this book because...

It was incredibly well researched and it depicted both the complexity of the Yalta conference and the complex relationships among Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin while also dealing with father-daughter relationships between fathers and daughters (Sarah Churchill, Anne Roosevelt and Kathy Harriman, whose father was at Yalta as US ambassador to Moscow). It read like a novel.

What is this book about?

The brilliant untold story of three daughters of diplomacy: Anna Roosevelt, Sarah Churchill, and Kathleen Harriman, glamorous, fascinating young women who accompanied their famous fathers to the Yalta Conference with Stalin in the waning days of World War II.

With victory close at hand, the Yalta conference was held across a tense week in February 1945 as Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin attempted to agree on an end to the war, and to broker post-war peace.

In Daughters of Yalta, Catherine Katz uncovers the dramatic story of the three young women who travelled with their fathers…

My 3rd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of The Gates of Gaza

Galina Vromen ❀️ loved this book because...

This non-fiction book, about the author's experience, being trapped in his safe room with his wife and two small children on a border Kibbutz during a terrorist invasion on October 7, 2023, gives a visceral description of his experience while also providing the historical background to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in recent decades. It really shows how both Israeli and Palestinian leaders have failed their constituents and done everything to avoid a resolution to the conflict and the degree to which common citizens are the pawns in this horrific conflict.

'Superb. A visceral, heartbreaking, and powerful account - with personal testimonies and deep research - of the October 7 Hamas invasion, massacres, and atrocities committed that day. Essential reading for anyone who wants to know what exactly happened.' Simon Sebag Montefiore

The gripping, true story of how leading Israeli journalist Amir Tibon, along with his wife and their two young children, were rescued on 7 October 2023 by Tibon's father - an incredible tale of survival that also reveals the tensions and failures that led to Hamas's attacks that day.

Book cover of Hill of Secrets

What is my book about?

Hill of Secrets, a historical novel set in WWII Los Alamos, explores the lives of families who lived at this remote New Mexico site, unaware that the world's first atomic bomb was being built in their midst. In this pressure cooker atmosphere, there's plenty of romance (not all of it squeaky clean), intrigue and tragedy -- and the moral issues of secrets big and small dominate...Described as "infectiously readable" by Booklist, and with more than 7,000 four- and five-star ratings on Amazon (more than 80% of all the ratings), this carefully researched, fast-paced novel brings you the parts of Los Alamos that the movie Oppenheimer left out...
