What is this book about?

Fire Support Base Matterhorn: a fortress carved out of the grey-green mountain jungle. Cold monsoon clouds wreath its mile-high summit, concealing a battery of 105-mm howitzers surrounded by deep bunkers, carefully constructed fields of fire and the 180 marines of Bravo Company. Just three kilometres from Laos and two from North Vietnam, there is no more isolated outpost of America's increasingly desperate war in Vietnam.

Second Lieutenant Waino Mellas, 21 years old and just a few days into his 13-month tour, has barely arrived at Matterhorn before Bravo Company is ordered to abandon their mountain and sent deep in-country in…

Donal Cameron is being raised by his grandmother, the cook at the legendary Double W ranch in Ivan Doig’s beloved Two Medicine Country of the Montana Rockies, a landscape that gives full rein to an eleven-year-old’s imagination. But when Gram has to have surgery for “female trouble” in the summer of 1951, all she can think to do is to ship Donal off to her sister in faraway Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Journey to Marseilles

By Dennis Billuni ,

Book cover of Journey to Marseilles

What is my book about?

Inspired by actual events, Journey to Marseilles follows two young Sam DiFranco, an idealistic G.I., and Rebecca Smit, a teenage expatriate living in the Netherlands. They each struggle for survival in a story of close camaraderie and desperate courage during World War II. Sam battles the Vichy French in North Africa and the Nazis on the battlefields of Sicily, Salerno, and Anzio, confronting bloody kiling grounds and his own reckless heroism. In occupied Amsterdam, Rebecca works in the Dutch Resistance, delivering forged documents to fleeing Jews and smuggling a downed flier out of the city. Can they overcome fear, grief, and the crucible of the Third Reich's holocaust and still return to the homes they once knew?
