My favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Dionysus in Wisconsin

Ross Hightower and Deb Heim ❤️ loved this book because...

What I loved most about this book is that it defies description. Is it historical fantasy? Urban fantasy? Queer fantasy? Magical realism? Romantasy? Yes, all of that. The writing is sharp, funny, relatable and quirky. And weird. Very weird. But I found myself so engaged with the main characters that the weirdness really worked.

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Vibrations in the Field

Ross Hightower and Deb Heim ❤️ loved this book because...

The subject matter of this book is quite brutal (sexual assault and psychological manipulation) but the author weaves together themes of religion, mental illness, and quantum field theory to make this a much more complex and nuanced story about the forces of faith and love confronting unspeakable evil. Only an extremely skilled writer could pull this off.

    🐇 I couldn't put it down

By Daniel Burke ,

Why should I read it?

What is this book about?

"Daniel Burke's VIBRATIONS IN THE FIELD is a surprising, scintillating, and hard-hitting blend of intrigue, spirituality, and quantum physics that makes for a truly compelling journey." –IndieReader

Good men take the Hippocratic oath, and evil ones break it. Sweet Jane learned that firsthand.

Young, beautiful, and brilliant, Jane Carter was on the verge of achieving her PhD in quantum physics when they first appeared, visitors from other universes that no one else could see. Desperate to hold on to her dreams, she turned to a psychiatrist whose controversial treatment promised to rid her of the hallucinations and restore her sanity.…

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Dead Egyptians

Ross Hightower and Deb Heim ❤️ loved this book because...

The story careens across multiple genres, including historical fiction, paranormal fantasy, and magical realism, never fully settling firmly on any one of them. In the hands of a less capable author, this would quite frankly be disorienting, but the bones of the plot are revealed as skillfully as a sculptor chipping away at a block of marble. Another weird read, which is why I loved it.

Why should I read it?

2 authors picked Dead Egyptians as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

"Dead Egyptians takes the reader on a vast, rollicking ride through history, reincarnation, romance and more... " –Susan Martell Huebner, author She Thought the Door Was Locked

In Egypt, all things are possible. So discovers Albion Stanley, a recent Cambridge graduate and brilliant linguist, newly arrived in Cairo in 1902. Albion sees the unseen, including ghosts. It is a less than comfortable reality, which he tends to with copious amounts of whiskey and numerous other vices.

Also in Cairo is Aleister Crowley, the famed occultist. Aleister is a dangerous man, but not an unsympathetic one and never a dull one.…

Don‘t forget about my book 😀

Spirit Sight: Volume One

By Ross Hightower ,

Book cover of Spirit Sight: Volume One

What is my book about?

Witches fight the patriarchy in this "Witcher" meets "Mistborn" epic tale. Spirit Sight is the story of Minna, a girl from a remote village on the edge of a corrupt empire, who develops spirit sight and is branded a witch. When the oppressive inquisition captures her sister, she must take on the Empire and become the heroine her people need.
According to Coffee Book Couch, "There's something special about a fantasy novel that doesn't just transport you to another world, but makes you feel like you belong, living and breathing alongside its characters."
