I'm a sucker for a time travel story but they often follow a similar path. This is a fresh take. Even though our heroine would love to go home, she's immersed in her new life and doing important work. The fish-out-of-water aspect is far from the same old, and the writing is wonderful and immersive. This was my favorite book of 2024.
A time travel romance, a spy thriller, a workplace comedy, and an ingenious exploration of the nature of power and the potential for love to change it all: Welcome to The Ministry of Time, the exhilarating debut novel by Kaliane Bradley.
In the near future, a civil servant is offered the salary of her dreams and is, shortly afterward, told what project she’ll be working on. A recently established government ministry is gathering “expats” from across history to establish whether time travel is feasible—for the body, but also for the fabric of space-time.
Autobiography is my fave genre. I believe there's something to be gained or learned from every life. Geddy Lee isn't just a rock icon, he's also a Canadian treasure. I can't say I'm a big fan of Rush - except for a few of the more radio-friendly singles they've released - but this memoir is much more than the making of a legendary band. Lee delves deeper into his life, his family's legacy, what it means to be him in this space and time. He drew me in. Simply an excellent read.
The long-awaited memoir, generously illustrated with never-before-seen photos, from the iconic Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Rush bassist, and bestselling author of Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass.
Geddy Lee is one of rock and roll's most respected bassists. For nearly five decades, his playing and work as co-writer, vocalist and keyboardist has been an essential part of the success story of Canadian progressive rock trio Rush. Here for the first time is his account of life inside and outside the band.
Long before Rush accumulated more consecutive gold and platinum records than any rock band after the…
To a child of the 60s/70s, there are few personalities who loom as large as The Fonz. Henry Winkler, the man who brought Arthur Fonzarelli to life, is the polar opposite of his sitcom character. Anxious, in and out of fashion and work, the gaps in his career path would have caused others to simply give up. And yet here he is, a legend. From Happy Days to Barry and beyond, this book offers a thorough picture of a sweet man who I, for one, never tire of.
Henry Winkler was catapulted to worldwide fame as The Fonz in hit TV series Happy Days. When it ended, he could hardly find work. Through highs, lows and the roles that have won him a new generation of fans, this is Henry Winkler's funny, insightful and moving account of an extraordinary life.
Widely-regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood (though he would be the first to tell you that it's simply not the case, he's really just grateful to be there), Henry Winkler shares the disheartening truth of his childhood, the difficulties of a…
The Naked Truth tells the story of Lisa’s summer as a live-in employee at a nature resort outside of Hamilton, Ontario. It was far from a typical summer job and it gave her an education you just can't get inside a classroom! Find out what life is really like inside the gates of a 1980’s “nature resort” and how the overworked employees, the “summer helpers”, find ways to make the most of the season.
