Book cover of From Here to the Great Unknown

Laura Meer Barkley ❤️ loved this book because...

I usually do not buy celebrities' memoirs, assuming their lives are too comfortable and thus boring. I was up for a surprise with this one. Lisa's memoir could be considered one of the best on childhood emotional trauma.

What is this book about?

Born to an American myth and raised in the wilds of Graceland, Lisa Marie Presley tells her whole story for the first time in this raw, riveting, one-of-a-kind memoir faithfully completed by her daughter, Riley Keough.

In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-conceived memoir.

A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words; never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and grieved.

Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed,…

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Fighting for Our Friendships: The Science and Art of Conflict and Connection in Women's Relationships

Laura Meer Barkley ❤️ loved this book because...

I saw an article for this book on CNN and was intrigued. Fighting for Our Friendships by Danielle Bayard Jackson is about female friendships. What an unexplored topic! I love my friends like biological sisters, so this book was very interesting to me. It dives right into why friendship bonds are important with all its ups and downs. It gives examples with real-life drama we can all relate to. Reading this was a masterclass in how not to be selfish and how to be a better—and not gossipy—friend.

Laura Meer Barkley ❤️ loved this book because...

I am a true fan of Cathy Glass. As a teacher and as a survivor of a traumatic childhood myself. I wish every child in the world who lost their parents, permanently or temporarily, had Cathy as their caregiver.

This Childhood of Mine

By Laura Meer Barkley ,

Book cover of This Childhood of Mine

What is my book about?

A chilling true story of a ten-year-old girl struggling to survive in a dysfunctional family in Russia.

The sweet-natured Laura Meer dreams of a superhero and spends days trying to provide for herself while being half-neglected by her parents, who couldn’t take good care even of themselves. Her father constantly tries to kill her mother, and the police refuse to help.

Developing faith in God is Laura’s only strength. But will she be able to protect her mother?

Hauntingly beautiful, This Childhood of Mine is more than a tale of survival, resilience, and unconditional love—it’s a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to heal. The memoir will resonate with anyone who has experienced adversity, reminding readers that even in the darkest of times, there’s hope.
