This was a new-to-me author, and I absolutely loved the way she wove this story together with both historical context as well as rich character development and detailed descriptions of early twentieth century New York and California.
I really related to the vulnerability and intrigue of the main character, Catherine Ogden, who must navigate a world that is hell-bent on the all-consuming power of the dollar and male dominance. Ginny Kubitz Moyer’s rich narrative, lyrical prose, and attention to detail are what set this story apart for me.
Set on a lavish California estate, The Seeing Garden is "a moving story with strong female characters" (Kirkus Reviews) for fans of Edith Wharton and Downton Abbey.
It's 1910, and Catherine Ogden is aching to live a creative and meaningful life. That's not easy to do when her aunt and uncle-and all of New York society-consider a good marriage to be the pinnacle of feminine achievement. But when Catherine visits Oakview, the Northern California estate of handsome bachelor William Brandt, she thinks that it might be possible to satisfy her family's hopes as well as her own. In that beautiful…
I mean, come on—you’d have to be living under a rock to not know about this series and the insane speculation, hype, and anticipation for Book 3 (Onyx Storm) coming in January 2025. I have to admit, I can’t wait.
Rebecca Yarros certainly left Book 2 on a cliff-hanger-slash-oh-no-she-didn’t shocker that’s still hard for me to wrap my brain around. But I will wait patiently and spend the month of December re-reading Books 1 and 2 instead.
If I had to describe Fourth Wing in one word it would be: gripping. The main character, Violet, is such a wonderful mix of vulnerability and strength that she breaks your heart in one moment, then stitches it back together in the next. Enter Xaden and phew, honey, bring on the steam. These two and their dragons—what can I say: action, power, sex, and love—swoon!

Sara Goodman Confino is a go-to author for me. Her stories never fail to delight, impress, and intrigue. Each adventure is like stepping into a whole new world.
In the case of this book, we are taken back in full technicolor to the 1960s and are met with a wonderful concoction of mixed generations melding together in a coming-of-age-young-woman versus a wise-older-aunt story.
For Marilyn, there are so many firsts in this book: first time falling in and out of love, first time away from parents, first time learning about unconventional enduring love, and first time discovering that all you really need in life is to rely on yourself and to trust your instincts.
The arc of transformative growth and silly, laugh-out-loud tone of this novel will set your heart alight.
In 1960, a young woman discovers a freedom she never knew existed in this exhilarating, funny, and emotional novel by the bestselling author of She's Up to No Good.
When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi's son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter's reputation, it's Philadelphia's strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye.
To Marilyn's surprise, Ada's not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermes scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She's…
