Zoe Disigny Author Of The Art of Traveling Strangers

From my list on art and its timeless emotional pull.

Why am I passionate about this?

A year after taking an art history course in college, I visited the Impressionist Museum in Paris and felt I could recall all my professor’s lectures—word-for-word. It was as if the paintings were talking to me. Exhilarated by that experience of connection, I went on to get a master’s degree in art history and have since traveled the world in search of great art. As a timeless human expression, both stimulating and comforting, art gives me a profound sense of emotional satisfaction that I believe the books on my list beautifully explore.

Zoe Disigny Why Zoe loves this book

This book touched my soul.

Years ago, when I worked as an art museum lecturer, I often wandered the galleries before they opened to the public. The author recreated that magical experience for me—those exquisite moments of solitude and solace when the paintings opened up and quietly shared their mysteries.

As I read, I felt I was in the museum with the author, gazing at those works, and absorbing their timeless wisdom.

They’re the guards who roam unobtrusively in dark blue suits, keeping a watchful eye on the two million square foot treasure house. I have always had an interest in the climbing world and medicine. Mimi’s book was a wonderful combination of both. I couldn’t put it down.

33 authors picked Tap Dancing on Everest as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

The plan was outrageous: A small team of four climbers would attempt a new route on the East Face of Mt. Everest, considered the most remote and dangerous side of the mountain, which had only been successfully climbed once before. Unlike the first large team, Mimi Zieman and her team would climb without using supplemental oxygen or porter support. While the unpredictable weather and high altitude of 29,035 feet make climbing Everest perilous in any condition, attempting a new route, with no idea of what obstacles lay ahead, was especially audacious. Team members were expected to push themselves to their…
