In Maybe in Another Life, I was moved by how two distinct journeys stemming from one somewhat insignificant life choice can lead to a pre-destined outcome and fated love.

This book really leans into how the Universe may have bigger plans for us, regardless of how we choose to get there, which challenged my notion of the “one path-one destination” outlook when it comes to fate. I was left intrigued and inspired by the role of free will, but affirmed that destiny is destiny, after all.

This spoke to my need for certainty in love.

So much so, that like Natasha, I wanted to seek out an astrologer to discover my elusive soulmate’s birth date and place so I could begin the search for true love.

During so many moments in the story, I could feel the wavering sense of desperation and hope as Natasha combed through every possible prospect for love, even the ones who were not a fit! I cheered her on, hoping not only would she meet her soulmate but that her strategy for doing so would work, providing us all a blueprint for finding “the one.”

This book inspired me to see that second chances at love might not simply be an opportunity to reconnect with an old flame, but instead, the Universe’s way of guiding us to our destiny.

I have always believed soulmate romance to be one in which you cross paths with a stranger, and a magnetism emerges. But the idea of finding your way back to someone you already know affirmed for me that trusting my intuition, leaning into divine timing, and taking chances might lead me back to a great love that somehow got away. 

This was a breath of fresh air for me, affirming how messy, raw, and sometimes completely chaotic the quest to heal and move on after heartbreak can be, particularly given that I read it after a difficult breakup.

As I tagged along with Gabrielle through her travels, witnessing her make one questionable decision after the next, all in an effort to stop hurting and find love and happiness, I saw how forging through “the mess” is simply part of the healing process.

Her book inspired me to take chances, even if they backfire, put myself out there, and embrace the idea that the journey to heal and find love can be far more important than any destination.

While this story isn’t about actually finding that fated love, it’s about her own destiny to embark on a journey of self-love, which, to me, is the best love you can find.

Dave and his best friend Skipper are a hilarious comedy double act. You can’t help wanting to be friends with these two rogue pigeons and joining in with their crazy antics. I particularly love the way they talk to each other. Swapna Haddow’s dialogue is delightful and Sheena Dempsey’s wonderful illustrations, which are a huge part of the book, really bring out a sense of fun in the story. Lots of artwork and speak bubbles help to break up the text making this easy and a pleasure to read.

I like this book because the author shares her story of transforming a heartbreaking broken engagement into enhanced self-understanding and a happy marriage. The book is easy to read. As the title suggests, if a woman loves herself before entering a relationship, she'll choose wisely instead of marrying someone who's not right for her to prove she deserves love.

I'm impressed by the author's affirmation of serendipity, willingness to be open to the unexpected. Christine used to think her future marriage partner should have traits like her ex-fiancé had: average height, a full head of hair, and professional occupation.

Before she felt ready for another serious relationship, Christine writes that she started dating a man who was bald, very tall, and seemed to lack ambition. She found him fun, comfortable, and with excellent character traits. Christine married him.

This is a book that I will undoubtedly recommend to future generations as we collectively expand our consciousness and recognize the importance of synchronicity in our lives.

In a refreshing break from standard fare, Kempton-Smith uses humor with deep insight to describe the components of a horoscope in a writing style that is more amenable to the contemporary reader who is seeking the fundamentals of horoscope analysis. Descriptions of planets, signs, and aspects are instructive and instantly applicable in her many clear examples. The unique chapter on "Astrology for Daily Living" illustrates how astrology is used in mundane events and other areas that is not found in most texts. Her techniques for determining the best days for those born under certain signs to undertake endeavors is highly recommended, and her overall mass appeal is up-beat and entertaining. 

Grant Lewi was a legendary astrologer. He was the editor of Dell’s Horoscope magazine in the 1930s and '40s. He died in 1951 and this book is most likely out of print, but you can still get it on the Internet. He was such a master that he simplified the casting and interpretation of Horoscopes to a level that beginners could understand. A great entry point into astrology. The legend is that he knew the date of his death from his horoscope and bought a large life insurance policy shortly before that! His heirs did well and he paid next to nothing.

I was fortunate to have attended a lecture in 1988 presented by Liz Greene, I didn’t quite understand much of what she said because I was just a beginner, but I loved her passion and how other astrologers held onto every word she spoke. This was one of my first books on psychological astrology and I have bought nearly every book she has ever written since. Understanding the very basics of personality gives astrology an incredible foundation on which to then learn how to read the natal chart. This does just that.
