Jean Brannon Why Jean loves this book

I can’t help it. I adore a book bold enough to begin with its do-gooder main character playing cards at a brothel!

Yet beyond its popularity as a forbidden-desire romantasy, From Blood And Ash addresses spiritual themes like awakening and self-empowerment. I particularly admire how Armentrout creates characters with intense chemistry within a storyline that challenges indoctrination.

This novel sizzles as it explores plot lines pulled from today’s headlines – everything from abuse by religious authority figures to the nature of blind faith and the importance of personal truth.

I like when something beautiful is born from something ugly, and every book on this list is exactly that. Perfect with imperfections.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster. I love a good book that pulls every emotion out of you, even when you try to resist. And boy, did I try and resist. This book grabbed my heart and took me on a ride that I didn’t want to get off.

The writing is amazing, the author painting a picture so beautifully that I felt like I was right there, experiencing everything right along with the characters. It’s been years since I’ve read this book, but it’s always one I think about when I’m wanting something deep and emotional.

I loved this very emotional read. I loved the characters, the writing, and the story. The romance is steamy yet tasteful—extremely beautiful.

I loved this book by Kelly Moore because of how emotional it was. I love when books are written so well, it makes you feel like you’re living the story, rather than reading about someone else. I love a book that you don’t want to step away from, and this was one of those books.

I loved the character development, the overall story, Kelly Moore’s writing style, but most of all, I loved how the emotions jumped off the page and right into my chest.

Book cover of Poison Study

E.C. Glynn Author Of Heretic Behaviour

From my list on fantasy books with torment, heresy, and forbidden romance.

Why am I passionate about this?

Hi, I’m E.C. Glynn. I love writing stories that tackle the messiness of religious societies and belief systems through a fantasy lens. What qualifies me for such an endeavour? Well, with a Master's in International Relations, a decade as a Recovering Catholic, a career as an Officer in the Army, and an unhealthy fascination with cults, I think that’s not a bad place to start for developing a nuanced and interesting perspective on the topic. I am a very picky reader and need to read books that have beautiful prose, interesting worlds, complex and convoluted concepts, and believable dialogue to enjoy my reading experience.

E.C. Glynn Why E.C. loves this book

This book introduced me to the forced proximity/enemies-to-lovers tropes and has haunted me ever since.

The pervading mystery of the story, punctuated by strong characters and a love that has a lot of yearning behind it, made this totally unputdownable.

The world-building is incredibly creative – focusing on a benevolent dictator with authoritative and intolerant rule for anything around magic or religion. It creates a fascinating landscape for the ensuing mystery, political intrigue, and romance that follows.

I have re-bought this book multiple times because I keep giving it away as a gift.

I am OBSESSED with the dynamic between the main male character and the main female character. The tricksy nature of the fae, combined with the forbidden nature of humans in the fae realm, lends such a delicious tapestry to the complicated social dynamics between Jude and Cardan, and indeed the rest of the Fairie Court.

I particularly loved the transition of Jude throughout this book – she hardens as Cardan softens, and in a dangerous world, it’s just the perfect combination.

Adore, adore, adore.

Ella d’Avoine Author Of Midnight Blood

From my list on fantasy with incredible worlds to escape into.

Why am I passionate about this?

Ever since I was a child, I’ve loved anything fantasy-related, and I especially loved stories where the world around you would completely melt away as you read. I used to write my own stories then, too, and I’ve always had a passion for diving into it headfirst and immersing myself in the world entirely. I went through a period in my life where I was dealing with depression, and fantasy books that I could escape into were very important to me at that time.

Frankly, I didn’t give a damn about anything else while immersed in these 1,037 pages – except finding out if two strong-willed soulmates would ever get over themselves and surrender to sizzling love.

Although I initially read GWTW because I’m a Civil War nerd. I knew Margaret Mitchell had once worked as a prominent newspaper reporter, so I felt eager to read her exploration of a nation’s divided loyalties that led to brothers battling brothers.

But my reason for reading the book quickly became something else. For me personally, Rhett and Scarlett’s intense chemistry drew me in so deeply that it overshadowed something as big as the War Between The States.

I was sixteen when I first read Jane Eyre, and I was thoroughly unprepared for how it would change the course of my life.

My mother died when I was eleven, so I found a kindred spirit in the orphaned main character Jane. By the time she grew up and became a governess for the brooding Mr. Rochester, I cared deeply about her happiness.

As intense chemistry sparked between Jane and her employer, I realized that my true joy in life would be to write “can’t put it down” love stories like this one.
