Chow’s book Mimi Lee Cracks the Code is not only highly entertaining, but it also takes place on Catalina Island, where my very own Whit and Whiskers live. I wonder what they’d do if they met each other?
I laughed, and then I sighed, and then I laughed some more at this book. It’s a delightful tale with twists and turns that I absolutely loved. And that cat is quite the character.

This book by Kimberley O’Malley has Addie as one of my favorite characters! With her spunk and her sass, she gets the job done, even when the journey is seriously rough!

First up is Julia Ann Lindsey’s Bonnie and Clyde series. The laughs, the hijinks, the relationships, and the solved murders. It’s all a recipe for me to be pulled right into this series and away from anything I’m actually supposed to be doing.
I love the setting, the charm, and the way that the author gives us such a view right into the living room of Bonnie and her cat Clyde, so I want to go see if she’s available for a quick dinner! After she finds the killer, of course.

Not a lot of guys would appreciate having their wives dump a stiff into the middle of a perfectly lovely lecture. My husband, the archivist, was a little nonplussed. But that’s what happens when you’re married to a mystery writer. And since I write historical mysteries, and the lecture was about the history of Los Angeles, that’s how The Old Los Angeles series happened. I also have the Freddie and Kathy series, set in the 1920s, and the Operation Quickline series, set in the 1980s. And being married to an archivist is not only a blast, it’s a big help.
It’s erudite as all hell, but for my money, half the fun of this book is hanging with the denizens of 62 New Square, a bunch of young barristers, in their favorite coffee place or bar or even, sometimes, in their offices. I also got a lovely feel for Venice, as well.

I’ve been a sucker for the entire Brother Cadfael series since long before Derek Jacoby got a hold of the character (and knocked it out of the park, too). Ellis Peters did such a great job of recreating 12th-century England; I really felt like I was there.
