Gah! Virgins! I should mention that this book was actually written in the 80s and flashes back to the 50s, but in the spirit of this list (and simply because I flipping love it), I’m including it here.Peggy and Sean are two good little Catholic teens navigating their senior year of high school. Sean is slated to enter the priesthood upon graduation, testing the limits of the pair’s carnal restraint in the final days of their relationship. I don’t think there’s a book in the world that has influenced my storytelling more than this one. It’s hot, hilarious, and heartbreaking… and pretty much serves as the blueprint for my own book. Highly recommend.

Like, omigod! What a blast from the past! This adorable teen romance takes place in 1984 in southern California. It was a totally awesome 80s flashback that reminded me of Pretty in Pink (never a bad thing, amirite?). Granted, I felt that too many of the pop culture references were awkwardly crowbarred into the narrative, but it was still a fun ride nonetheless. I love stories like this, ones where the average girl lands the school’s most popular guy. Throw in a makeover, and I’m one-clicking every time. Does that make me shallow? I don’t care. Plots like that always give good butterflies, and MWY is no exception. If you’re looking for a totally rad romance that won’t gag you with a spoon, Melt With You will like, totally stoke your 1980s heart.

Jodie Beau and I have a mutual blogger friend who badgered me incessantly to read this book. I’m so glad she did! The Good Life is an enchanting story about a single mother heading back to her hometown to start over, but it’s all the awesome movie and TV show references that landed it a spot on this list. This author is as much of a pop culture junkie as I am… and that’s saying a lot. I’m a sucker for a steamy second-chance friends-to-lovers story that will leave me with a huge smile on my face by the last turn of the page. TGL delivered on all counts!

As an author, I like to write stories about interpersonal relationships that straddle the line between humor and heartbreak. Similarly, as a reader I am always drawn to stories that make me think about the choices we make and the ripple effects they cause, what ifs, and roads not taken. I love quirky, interesting characters in everyday settings turned extraordinary. I have struggled as so many of us have in these last few years to find the positivity and the levity. These are a few of my favorite recent reads that I found un-put-downable that left me feeling hopeful and helped me find that light in the darkness.
This book is in a similar vein as Oona finds herself time jumping within her own life, suddenly living it out of sequence as she jumps to a different period in time with each birthday, forcing her to look within and realize what is important and worth holding on to and worth fighting for. I am a sucker for books where characters get the opportunity to experience alternate versions of their personal realities, and I could not put this one down. I’m all about my characters understanding that the choices they make create their ultimate realities. The ultimate messages about the importance of love and family and the choices we make really resonated with me.

I like a good steamy emotional romance just like any other romance reader, but there’s nothing I love more than reading a romance that can make me laugh so hard I cry and then turn around and have a storyline with an unexpected twist that stomps on my heart a little before putting it all back together. Romantic comedies can be crazy and convoluted but I appreciate the fun release a good rom-com can deliver. That’s what I strive to provide through my rom coms as well. Relatable characters experiencing crazy life moments while finding their happily-ever-afters.
Tara Sivec, in my mind, is like that crazy aunt who has an unfiltered mind and says what she wants and it’s funny every time! Her words make me cackle and this story is filled with crazy fun, witty banter, and a really hot rainstorm scene! Kiss My Putt is a friends-to-lovers mixed with enemies-to-lovers mixed with second chance romance. The story revolves around a cool, calm, and collected pro-golfer who is forced to take some time off after throwing a royal tantrum on television during a tournament. He goes home, to Summersweet Island, where everybody knows everybody and there’s no place to hide. Especially when he runs into his best friend, Birdie Bennett. This book is a must-read!

I find myself drawn to how people come together in both the good and the bad times.
In my opinion, you need to be able to relate to the characters in order for the story to become a success.
When there are characters that are not wholly good or evil, this is definitely an eye-catcher for me. In this particular story, I found myself rooting for the ‘bad guys,’ the main characters.
The female lead is someone who can really think on her feet and I really respect that in a character. This is not always done well. Often times, characters rely on their counterparts, but this wasn’t the case. When it came to the male character, he was the perfect level of nefarious.
Throughout this story, I was enthralled by their contrasting natures and the environment they were forced to survive in.

I have to say, behind shark shifters, dragon shifters are my favorite kind of people. Generally speaking, if they’re the main characters in a book, it will definitely be on my radar.
I was not disappointed. These characters were strong, fierce, and brutal, just exactly how a dragon should be. I also found it to be really refreshing to have human characters from the UK. This added a healthy amount of dry responses, especially in the main female lead, Amber. Despite everything Amber has gone through, she still holds onto the core of herself.
I also loved the world the author created. I found myself getting lost in the intriguing plot and great action sequences.
Overall, I quite enjoyed the entire series, and I will definitely continue to read novels by the same author.

I was escaping from my stalker ex when they took me from Earth. Dropped into a hellish alien maze where all I am is potential food. I really took a chance with this story, and I’m glad I did. I read the entire series and its spin-off in a matter of days. I wish there were more books like this series.
What really caught my attention were the characters. I developed a strong bond with them as they struggled to survive in a world that no longer exists. I found this relatable to my own daily struggles. It’s heartbreaking but also, after each obstacle they overcame, each victory they had. I cheered them on, hoping against all odds that not only would they survive but that they would also thrive.
The apocalypse genre is extremely fascinating to me as a fellow writer because it’s almost a blank slate for creativity and you also get some very interesting takes as to what caused the end of the world, just like in the book.

I loved this story for many reasons. The first thing that caught my attention was having a strong female lead. Her no-nonsense character was out of this world. She was relatable in many ways, especially with her black sheep antics. She had me caught up in some hilarious moments that had me in stitches.
The second thing was the murder mystery. This had me hooked right off the bat, wanting to know who the killer was. That really kept me intrigued throughout, and I couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out. Although I was upset to have finished this wonderful story, I was quite thrilled with how it ended.

I love a good underdog, especially one who’s out craving their own life path and is not railing at the fate over the hand who dealt it to them. Personally, I can relate to this. I saw myself as the heroine.
Pets in novels are underrated, and the inclusion of one in this story was wonderful. He was mischievous and adorable at the same time.
The male lead in the novel was also really refreshing. I enjoyed his long-term planning and ability to be one step ahead of everyone except for the female. I really resonated with the combination of personalities.
The overall story spoke to me as well. I felt really lost in the world of Harmony and the secrets it hides.
