Paul Tremblay’s terrifying twist to the home invasion novel—inspiration for the upcoming major motion picture from Universal Pictures
“Tremblay’s personal best. It’s that good.” — Stephen King
Seven-year-old Wen and her parents, Eric and Andrew, are vacationing at a remote cabin on a quiet New Hampshire lake. Their closest neighbors…
Why read it?

This book hooked me from the first chapter and didn’t let go until the last page.
My well-worn paperback was my constant companion when I first read it, looking for any quiet moment in my day to see how parents Eric and Andrew were going to survive their unimaginable predicament.
The constant tug of war between danger and safety, logic and faith, and cruelty and mercy kept me on the edge of my seat until the bitter end.
From Corey's list on end of the world books.
I love the way Paul Tremblay takes a well-used and seemingly worn-through horror trope (oooh, a cabin in the woods, let’s split up so we can cover more territory), re-invents it, and throws it back in your face with a ‘Ha! Weren’t expecting that, were you?’
He turns the screws on this lovely small family, has no mercy on any of them, and in the process, made me wonder what I would do in an impossible choice kind of situation. The movie was fine, but I greatly enjoyed the book with its moral, ambiguous gray space, and haunting ending.
From J.'s list on horror that will make you cancel your travel plans.
There is so much tension and paranoia built into this quiet story that you won't know what to believe by the end.
I have been thinking a lot about adopting, and I felt really connected to this one. It must be hard to be a gay couple raising a child in a world full of strangers who can burst into your life just to challenge you at any time.
I just couldn't get past the reality of the situation presented here. It could happen to anyone at any time, but the fact that it happened to a gay couple made…
From Richard's list on delicious horror stories to devour in one sitting.
