I’ve always been fascinated by how we can fulfill our potential in a way that allows us to thrive rather than burning ourselves out in the process. My motto is I’d like to ‘save the world, but be back in time for tea.’ My fascination has led me down all sorts of intriguing avenues. I’ve become a stand-up comic (and taken four solo shows to the Edinburgh Fringe), exploring how humor can help us tackle tough topics. I’ve researched mental health (I’m currently studying for an MSc in the Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health), I’ve studied elite sports, and I’ve been an Executive Coach to leaders of diverse organizations.
I loved the leftfield ideas in this book, combined with Pippa’s honest tone. It gave me a fascinating glimpse into what it is like to be a professional improv comic—Pippa is super honest about the highs and the lows. But what I really loved were the transferable skills. For example, she’s really insightful about how improv folks are very purposeful when using the word ‘and’ to build a scene.
Pippa really made me think about when I say ‘yes’ or ‘no’, why I say it and what the consequences are. It’s been a real game changer to help me think about when I say ‘yes’ and take on too much, or conversely when I say ‘no’ and block possibilities.

PIPPA EVANS is an expert in saying Yes - and No. She's a master of thinking on her feet, but has also had to learn how to go with the flow. In…
I found this book wonderfully confronting! We’ve all heard the cliché that when life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade (grrr!), but this book helped me figure out HOW. It provoked me to reframe problems simply as contexts and celebrate constraints as clarity, helping me move forward.
Although it is very much a business book—full of plenty of corporate examples (I particularly loved the ones about growing crops and selling beer!)—I’ve found techniques like the ‘propelling questions’ useful more broadly, too.
An inspiring yet practical guide for transforming limitations into opportunities A Beautiful Constraint: How to Transform Your Limitations Into Advantages And Why It's Everyone's Business Now is a book about everyday, practical inventiveness, designed for the constrained times in which we live. It describes how to take the kinds of issues that all of us face today lack of time, money, resources, attention, know-how and see in them the opportunity for transformation of oneself and one's organization's fortunes. The ideas in the book are based on the authors' extensive work as business consultants, and are brought to life in 35…

I’m not a fan of conflict (Who is?!), so I found this book incredibly helpful. I really liked the way the authors broke things down into simple buckets. For example, rather than thinking, ‘Why did that innocent little, tiny comment wind me up so much? I must be a muppet!’ It helped me to see the principles at play and, therefore, what I could do to keep thriving.
I use many of the techniques described here on a daily basis. They have helped me to stay true to what is important whilst maintaining rapport, to seek out valuable feedback without getting bent out of shape, and to deliver difficult messages more compassionately and effectively.

I found this both hilarious and life-affirming. I found it hard when my kids were small to balance career and family, and this book felt like a best friend, saying, ‘Yeah, I know, bonkers, isn’t it? But it’s all OK.’ I’m a huge fan of humor as being like a pair of oven gloves to help us handle the hot stuff, normalize our experiences, and build rapport with other people.
This book did exactly that and more. Warning! It’s quite irreverent and cheeky—which I absolutely loved…
A is for Anxiety, Alcohol and awful Activities. B is for Bedtime, Baking and Boredom. C is for Childcare and Cooking With Your Coat on. N is for Not Swearing (bloody frustrating) and S is for Soft Play Places, Sniffing Babies' Arses (to see if they've filled their nappies - are there not easier ways of finding out?) and Sex (see also L, for lack thereof).
Can I Give them Back Now? puts two fingers up to the pervasive notion that parenthood is an eternally rewarding experience. Taking a wry, down-to-earth and humorous look at life with young children, it…

This is one of the books that first got me into coaching—and here I am, coaching over twenty years later! I love it because it is short and to the point but still gives lots of examples, which helped me understand the concepts. I also found the author very generous in sharing lots of hugely practical tools.
I think my biggest ‘Aha’ moment was this book showing how the gap between what we want to achieve and where we are now can have many different forms—that a block can be purely about confidence or lack of accountability—it may well not be a lack of knowledge or skills. I think coaching is an invaluable skill for every walk of life, and this book helped me start my coaching journey.
