I turned out to be the 8th unwanted daughter because of my sexuality. Coming from this small-town big family full of superstitions and secrets, I am naturally drawn to dramatic family stories with many dark and psychological twists.
This novel is impossible. Names, plots, generations, and vivid words all created hurdles for me to finish it. I honestly wanted to give up, but I always came back to the book.
The hurdles cast a spell that demanded me to continue. I wanted to know what happened to Macondo, the fictional town in the book. The magic elements and scents of the words left me spellbound for years. The reading experience elevated me to a colorful world, and I almost did not want to return to my reality.

I just love a dark family saga with disturbing characters. I was obsessed with thrillers, and many just made me yawn. This one didn’t disappoint.
The story crept in with shivering twists. I canceled all appointments to finish the book. The small-town dark mentality was so sick. I simply admired the storytelling.
The ending hit me hard. I was paralyzed in bed for a while after finishing the last page. I wanted more. Luckily, HBO turned it into a major limited series which allowed my obsession for the book to linger on.
