The Dalai Lama's Cat

By David Michie,

Book cover of The Dalai Lama's Cat

Sally Ember ❀️ loved this book because...

As a Buddhist, I was intrigued by the premise and enjoyed the narration by the cat a lot. Buddhist principles, life choices, rituals, and many other aspects of Buddhist life (and facts or almost-facts about His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama) abound amidst a cute story. It was so good and fun to read that I immediately requested all the other books in the series, and I'm currently reading the last one this week (October, right before Halloween).
The human characters are well-drawn, if a bit archly (from the cat's perspective, after all), and many of the plot points are interesting.
If you're not a Buddhist but may be curious about it, and like "cute" books, recommend this a lot. If you ARE a Buddhist but have never been to India/Dharmasala, definitely pick this up. Anyone else, if you like unusual books that are easy and quick to read, you'll probably like it, also.

What is this book about?

'In the months that followed I watched His Holiness working on a new book... I began to think that perhaps the time had come for me to turn my paws to a book of my own . . . one that tells my own tale . . . How I was rescued from a fate too grisly to contemplate, to become constant companion to a man who is not only one of the world's greatest spiritual leaders and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, but who is also a dab hand with the can opener.'

Not so much fly-on-the-wall as cat-on-the-sill,…

Reverse Meditation How to Use your Pain and Most Difficult Emotions as the Doorway to Inner Freedom by Holecek, Andrew

Sally Ember ❀️ loved this book because...

This book rocked my world. I have been meditating since 1972, and had many years of therapy on both sides of the "couch," as well as in groups as member and leader. This is the first book I've read that describes the inner work I've been doing on my own and the ways it is effective. So helpful, affirming, strange and wonderful to read about "my" practices from someone else's perspective.
I've been working deliberately on recovering from multiple traumas (C-PTSD and I are long-time companions) and dealing with family and other stressors, and this book offered so much support and explanatory material as well as more ways for me to approach my healing. SO grateful.
I lead a meditation group, and I've shared some parts with them: they LOVED the parts I shared.

This Changes Everything

By Sally Ember,

Book cover of This Changes Everything

What is my book about?

Dr. Clara Ackerman Branon, Ph.D., 58, is having the first of many home visits from holographic representations of five beings from the Many Worlds Collective (MWC), a consortium of planet and star systems all around the multiverse, over a thirty-year, increasingly utopian period. Earth is being invited to join, formally, and the December, 2012, visit is the first one allowed to be made public. Making the existence of the MWC public means many Earthers have to adjust our beliefs and ideas about life, religion, culture, identity and, well, everything we think and are. Clara becomes the liaison for Earth, the Chief Communicator, between Earth and the MWC. This Changes Everything relates the events partly from her point of view, partly from records of meetings of varying groups of the MWC governing bodies, and partly from her Media Contact, Esperanza Enlaces, employing humor, poignancy, a love story, family issues, MWC's mistakes and blunders, history, politics, paranormalcy and hope.
