Book cover of Raising Hare

Marianne C. Bohr ❤️ loved this book because...

I didn't expect a book about a woman and a hare to stay with me the way this one has. It's a quiet, tender story of two beings learning to trust each other, with no demands on either side, and each life is richer for it. The writing is lovely. I was captivated by the author's close, patient observations of the hare, the kind of details you only notice when you've stopped long enough to really look. Woven through them are her reflections on how we live, where we belong in the natural world, and the responsibility that comes with the freedom to choose. I closed the book feeling a little more attentive to the wild things around me. A lovely, thought-provoking read.

My 2nd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of Heartwood

Marianne C. Bohr ❤️ loved this book because...

What a find for this hiker. I happened upon this book by chance, and I'm so glad I did. It's a quick read in the very best way. The pages practically turn themselves, but the story never feels thin. The style is engaging and keeps the pace brisk and the story feeling immediate and true. Every character is real and raw, the kind of people you can't stop thinking about after you've closed the book. Beautiful.

Book cover of Eliza Waite

Marianne C. Bohr ❤️ loved this book because...

From a lonely island off the coast of Washington to the rough-and-tumble boomtown of Skagway, Alaska, in 1898, Eliza Waite blazes her own trail through every hardship imaginable. I was with her every step of the way. A woman of quiet hunger and fierce spirit, Eliza devours the news of the suffragists fighting for the vote, all while building a brave new life in a world run by men. She is clever, curious, and courageous, a heroine to cheer for from her tragic beginning to her triumphant end. I closed the book wishing I could have shared a cup of tea with her.

When Paris Whispers

By Marianne C. Bohr ,

Book cover of When Paris Whispers

What is my book about?

Twenty-two-year-old Catrine arrives in Paris, the city she's dreamed of since childhood, and it speaks back-but not in ways she expected. Drifting through the streets of 1981 Paris, the voices of French writers she once read in solitude whisper back, intimate and insistent. Rather than reassure her, they unsettle her, exposing cracks in the person she believed herself to be.

When a brief romance ends in abrupt eviction, Catrine is left broke and unmoored, suspended between a city that won't release her and a past she refuses to reclaim. An unlikely friendship with a widowed Sorbonne professor leads to an impulsive road trip to Normandy and everything begins to unravel. What follows is not the Paris she expected, but something more unsettling-and more honest.

Is the City of Light rescuing her, haunting her, or revealing something she's been too afraid to see?
