Book cover of Unbreakable(ish)

Marcey Rader ❤️ loved this book because...

My husband and I listened to Unbreakable(ish) over a couple of road trips, and I lost count of how many times we hit pause to talk about something Ali Ingersoll just said.

Ali was paralyzed from the chest down in her mid-20s, but her childhood on Cat Island could be its own movie. She was raised to be fiercely independent and to explore everything, which made me a little sad about how many kids today never get the chance to wander. Then there’s playing games with Michael Jackson as a kid. And the Playboy Mansion. You’ll think it’s fiction. I’ve talked with Ali, and her family vouched for all of it at her book launch.

We also learned how much the healthcare system asks of people with paralysis, and we kept coming back to how lucky she was to have the means to get what she needed, when so many people don’t.

Get the audio. Ali reads it herself, which takes real effort when breathing makes long stretches of talking hard.

Since finishing it, I notice accessibility everywhere: restaurants, theaters, venues, public bathrooms. Like how high the paper towels are, and whether someone in a wheelchair could reach them.

Read it if: you want to laugh, cry, and see the world from a few feet lower than you’re used to.

By Ali Ingersoll ,

Why should I read it?

What is this book about?

Caribbean lifestyle. Wilderness adventures. Jail in China. A shallow dive that changed everything

In Unbreakable(ish), Ali Ingersoll takes you on a wild, hilarious, and deeply real ride through a life that broke multiple times—then got rebuilt stronger until one minute, she was traveling the world—the next, she was paralyzed from the chest down, directing her own emergency rescue and questioning everything she thought she knew.

This isn’t just her story. It’s fuel for yours.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, knocked off course, or like your life doesn’t look the way you planned, this book is for you. It’s about finding…

My 2nd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of Inner Propaganda

Marcey Rader ❤️ loved this book because...

I have 29 pages of Kindle highlights from Inner Propaganda, and I still pull them up to reread something Owen Fitzpatrick said.

Here’s how I know a book makes my top three: I can’t wait for my husband to get home from work so I can tell him what I just learned. This was one.

Fitzpatrick walks through the biases we all carry and the different kinds of truth: objective, shared, emotional, and desired. That framework explained a lot for me. I finally understood why people double down when they learn they’re wrong, and how groupthink walks smart people into situations that are dangerous and inexplicable.

Read it if: you want to understand the human mind, how you talk to yourself, and how you build the opinions and beliefs you’d defend to the end.

Why should I read it?

1 author picked Inner Propaganda as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Right now, your brain is selling you a story about who you are, what's true, and what you should believe. And you're buying it, even when it sabotages your success. In Inner Propaganda, psychologist Owen Fitzpatrick reveals the internal persuasion system shaping your thoughts, your decisions, and your reality. After decades studying external propaganda, from witnessing first-hand modern influence operations in North Korea, Afghanistan, and Washington D.C., to analysing the incredible double agent who helped change the outcome of World War II, Fitzpatrick reached a startling conclusion: The same tactics that sway nations also operate inside each of us. Your…

Book cover of We Were Liars

Marcey Rader ❤️ loved this book because...

What makes a good fiction book? For me, it’s staying up way too late in bed because I have to know what happens in the next chapter. We Were Liars was that book.

A wealthy family, a private island, and one summer nobody will talk about. That’s all you get from me. Anything more is a spoiler, and in this book the spoiler matters.

Read it if: you want a story you’ll finish faster than you planned, and you’re fine being tired at work the next day.
