It's a cross between family drama and thriller, and while I often read the former, I rarely read the latter. It broadened my reading horizons. I liked that it's about an immigrant family in another country--not where they are born, not where they live--so the setting broadened my mind. The key question is how well do really know our family? Our sibling? Anyhone?
'Powerful . . . A twisting tale of love, loss, and dark family secrets' Paula Hawkins, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Girl on the Train and Into the Water
It begins with a mystery. Sylvie, the beautiful, brilliant, successful older daughter of the Lee family, flies to the Netherlands for one final visit with her dying grandmother - and then vanishes.

Decades ago, I read Little Bee and Incendiary and always remember enjoying his writing. This did not disappoint. A world that is unfamiliar on every level--Olympic athletes, competitive friendships, life-or-death illness. A story of how far one will go to win and how much one will pay to hold on. A solid read with real characters.
The extraordinary third novel from Chris Cleave, author of the internationally bestselling, Costa-shortlisted THE OTHER HAND.

Page-turning and perplexing with a story I did not see coming. Plot twist after plot twist that did not disappoint. Impossible to sum it up, so read it if you're curious. Unique.

Have you read part 1 in this duology? Places We Left Behind: a memoir-in-miniature
What does it feel like to live permanently between two places, two identities, two versions of yourself, without resolution?
In experimental chapterettes, some contained in a single page, American-born Jennifer Lang traces seven years of rooting down in a country that never quite feels like hers and a self that keeps shifting beneath her feet. Reckoning with her adopted country of Israel, midlife hormones, a cross-cultural marriage to a Frenchman, and their imminent empty nest, she applies the chakra wisdom of her first yoga teacher, nationally acclaimed Rodney Yee, to each obstacle on her path to understanding what home actually means.
The answer, when it finally comes, is not about a place. It is about who you are when you stop waiting to arrive.
