Book cover of Queen Demon

Gloria Oliver ❤️ loved this book because...

I'm amazed at the juggling act with time. Like the first book in the series, each chapter flips between the now and hundreds of years before. Yet both tie together in unexpected ways, and show how it has affected decisions now. What makes it more fun and amazing is that the main characters of now were also alive and the main characters back then

Martha Wells always has awesome character and her fantasy is also always amazingly immersive. Multiple cultures, multiple core beliefs, all built with incredible detail. Love it!

My 2nd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of Project Hail Mary

Gloria Oliver ❤️ loved this book because...

Writing hard science fiction that doesn't get lost in the science takes a balancing act. Andy Weir does an incredible job of that in Project Hail Mary. He also has moments of pure humor as well as an underlying mystery outside of the immediate problem at hand, which added a great amount of emotional impact. Especially in a moment diluted in the film—that despite having previously been a coward, he made the decision to risk his life/future in another hail Mary attempt to help his 100% doomed friend.

What is this book about?

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through…

My 3rd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook

Gloria Oliver ❤️ loved this book because...

Book 3 of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook was the turning point for me from reading an enjoyable book series where I could read a volume and walkaway to a different book before reading the next one in the series, to a I must read this book right now! And the next! And the next! And all the others currently out! GIMME!

Book 3 is where all the lowkey hints of a greater problem than surviving the dungeon truly come to the fore. What had only seemed to be a problem for the remnants of humanity in this new season of the dungeon crawl, are expanded to include all the travesties also performed to many other worlds, and how there is a reason for all the death other than just as a form of entertainment.

This is the one where it becomes darker than ever before! And it goes down and ever increasingly steep hill from here.

What is this book about?

Welcome to the Iron Tangle!
