Cindy Thomson ❤️ loved this book because...

This book did two things I love in a book: evoked emotion and showed me a setting I was unfamiliar with in a way that I could easily sense myself there. I also loved the blurring of a fairytale into real life. A beautiful story!

My 2nd favorite read in 2026

Book cover of The Calamity Club

Cindy Thomson ❤️ loved this book because...

My favorite read of the year. I was instantly drawn into the story. The characters are unique while still believable. The setting during the Great Depression was an interesting time to delve into. At times it's pretty graphic, especially in the words chosen, but the story is so well done I didn't mind it. Strong women who have to make tough choices but do so in a creative way.

The Lost Story of Via Belle

By Melanie Dobson ,

Book cover of The Lost Story of Via Belle

Cindy Thomson ❤️ loved this book because...

I loved the mystery and the dual-time period format. One of the author's very best in my opinion. The modern character's longing for home and belonging was a powerful motivator for solving this mystery.

For Patrick Doyle, the claim that time heals all wounds is a cruel lie.
