My favorite read in 2025

Book cover of Nine Perfect Strangers

Susan McCormick ❤️ loved this book because...

I re-read this book in anticipation of the show, and it held up as I remembered. I love Liane Moriarty and her characters, and this one is chock full of interesting, believable, empathetic characters of all ages, as usual. It is a great suspense, with so many twists and turns and interweavings. The end wasn’t “perfect,” but the journey there was fantastic.

My 2nd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of The Impossible Fortune

Susan McCormick ❤️ loved this book because...

Book 5 in Osman’s series of elderly sleuths, the plot is as convoluted as always, but the real magic is the characters, each with their own personality, each with their own problems and interests, each enjoyable and just plain fun to be around. I love older characters and have written a cozy mystery series starring older ladies and a suspense novel with a quirky mother, and these four Thursday Murder Clubbers are right up my alley.

My 3rd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of What You Are Looking for Is in the Library

Susan McCormick ❤️ loved this book because...

A charming story of simple vignettes that all tie together with a heartwarming finish. I read this for my book club. My reading tastes (and the books I write) tend toward cozy mysteries, and this reminded me of a cozy in that the characters are all in an enclosed space of a neighborhood, their stories interweave with dropped clues along the way, the plot is engrossing, and the ending is uplifting. Everyone in the book club could relate to one of the characters or their situation, and the gentleness of the presentation and the solving of each problem was lovely.
