My favorite read in 2025

Book cover of The Stars My Destination

Michael Max Darrow ❤️ loved this book because...

This single fast-paced Sci-Fi novel by one of the grandfathers of Science Fiction had the greatest influence on me in both my personal life, and in my writing career. In fact, this novel by Alfred Bester won the first ever Victor Hugo award. It made me love Sci-Fi, love reading and want to read more. I read it in 1977 and reread it every year. It's that good! Follow Gulliver "Gully" Foyle on his quest for revenge against the Vorga and its crew.

My 2nd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of The Vampire Lestat

Michael Max Darrow ❤️ loved this book because...

Fast paced supernatural tale that I couldn't put down. A lot of the supernatural stuff coming out these days reminds me of mindless Harlequin romances. This is a classic. I read this years ago and decided to read it again this year. So good! I've read many books by Anne Rice and I sure miss her style. The Vampire Lestat is right up there with all the old classic vampires in my opinion. He is not the simple ghoul of old. He is complicated.

What is this book about?

#1 New York Times Bestselling author - Surrender to fiction's greatest creature of the night - Book II of the Vampire Chronicles

The vampire hero of Anne Rice’s enthralling novel is a creature of the darkest and richest imagination. Once an aristocrat in the heady days of pre-revolutionary France, now a rock star in the demonic, shimmering 1980s, he rushes through the centuries in search of others like him, seeking answers to the mystery of his eternal, terrifying exsitence. His is a mesmerizing story—passionate, complex, and thrilling.

My 3rd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Michael Max Darrow ❤️ loved this book because...

As a Potterhead, I naturally had to read this book. I've never read a book in play format before and that was a challenge at first, but after a few chapters, or "acts" I got the hang of it. Also, the print is really small. I had to use a magnifier to read it. It's not in ebook format so I couldn't blow up the page size. Putting all this aside, I'm glad I read this book. It is both unique, reading about Harry's son and his best friend, who just so happens to be Draco Malfoy's son, go on their own Hogwarts adventure that has more than a few twists and turns, new evil characters and the old characters we all knew and loved. It couldn't have been told better and I'm glad to have read it. I hope it is made into a movie someday...

Why should I read it?

2 authors picked Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London's West End on 30th July 2016.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past…

Don‘t forget about my book 😀

Blood Wolf God

What is my book about?

Picture the perfect sleepy little mountain community nestled in the lower mountains of Southern California between Riverside and Palm Springs. The town of Idyllwild Falls, too low for snow skiing, too high to escape a little snowfall. It is the perfect weekend hideaway for the rich and famous. The locals are an eclectic group of folks ranging from the outdoorsy type hikers and nature buffs to the spiritually motivated. From fortune tellers to spiritual healers and everything in between, Idyllwild Falls offers something for everyone.
What they don't tell you in the nature brochures is what else calls this town home...
