This is the part where I'd say romance isn't normally my thing but that is becoming less true 🤣 This book was exactly my thing and I loved it. I've reread it multiple times, and every single time the banter does not disappoint 🥰 Probably my favorite H.L. Burke book (although Wishing On A Supervillain is a close second!)

What is this book about?

Superpowers are a super pain. The non-powered middle child of a superhero family, Abigail Park has always taken pride in being "the normal one." No flying and throwing power blasts for her, thank you. Just a safe, steady office job, evenings in with her cat, and weekly hot yoga when she's feeling adventurous. Genetics can be cruel. When Abigail finds herself in the line of fire during a superhero and supervillain standoff, her latent abilities literally explode—blasting the HERO unconscious and catching the eye of sound-manipulating villain Thunderstruck. Threatening to send proof of her "aiding" him to the authorities, he blackmails her…

My 2nd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of Shaken

❤️ loved this book because...

Wow. Where has this book been all my life? This is a tech wiz turned one-woman A-Team and I am here for it. Reminds me a little of an adult version of Peter Jay Black's Urban Outlaws (one of my favorite books of all time). Female MC with no romance (edit: okay, there's some romance in the last book, but nothing too obnoxious) but one of the best female MCs I've seen *period*, and written by a male author no less. Ladies, we've gotta up our game! I found this book by chance while researching fugitives (writing research, I promise) and am SO glad I did. A handful of swears but that's really it in terms of issues. Five beautiful stars. Will read again.

My 3rd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of A Stolen Heart

❤️ loved this book because...

This book. This book has it all. Fluff. Banter. Realistic scenes of life not being fair because it isn't. And characters who choose the right thing to do because it's the right thing to do. Bonus points for retelling The Goose Girl without killing an innocent horse. In this book, 'tis but an illusion. And we have a cute baby gryphon too! I loved this book, so much. It's the final book to a series but can be read as a standalone (although it has spoilers for the other books, so if you're planning on reading them, read those first).

A Superhero for Christmas

By H.L. Burke ,

Book cover of A Superhero for Christmas

What is this book about?

His secret identity is her big scoop—if she can just avoid falling for him.

When superhero, Glint's, aka Henry Nichols's, powers go on the fritz after a supervillain attack, he finds himself rethinking his priorities. Years of devotion to public service have left him with little for himself, and with forty swiftly approaching, he finds himself longing for his youth on his grandfather's farm. An incognito vacation is just what he needs.

Former reporter Lara Landis lost her career and her only long-term relationship all in one humiliating blow. Broke and rudderless, she retreats to her parents' small town grocery store to try and make one last career rally, but how is she going to get a big scoop living in the middle of nowhere? When a poorly disguised superhero lands in her neighborhood, insisting that he's just a normal guy, she can't help but smell a story.

As their chance encounters turn into a begrudging friendship, Lara is surprised to find a caring, sincere human beneath Henry's press-conference-ready exterior. When the truth comes out, though, her big story could turn into his worst nightmare.
Author Note: A Superhero for Christmas is set in the same world as the Supervillain Rehabilitation Project series but is a standalone story that can be read on its own. If you enjoy the story, please check out the other tales in this universe.

I suggest starting with either Blind Date with a Supervillain or Reformed.
