Book cover of Slow Horses

Kirsten McKenzie ❤️ loved this book because...

If I could give Slow Horses more than five stars, I would!
Loved it. Absorbing, tricky, with just enough action and deception to keep you on your toes.
Perfectly flawed characters, who aren't afraid to double cross each other.
If you love spy stories, then you'll love this.

What is this book about?

*Now a major TV series starring Gary Oldman*

'To have been lucky enough to play Smiley in one's career; and now go and play Jackson Lamb in Mick Herron's novels - the heir, in a way, to le Carre - is a terrific thing' Gary Oldman

Slough House is the outpost where disgraced spies are banished to see out the rest of their derailed careers. Known as the 'slow horses' these misfits have committed crimes of drugs and drunkenness, lechery and failure, politics and betrayal while on duty.

In this drab and mildewed office these highly trained spies don't run…

My 2nd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of The Handmaid's Tale

Kirsten McKenzie ❤️ loved this book because...

I was spent after reading The Handmaids Tale. I am nothing more than a washed out rag after devouring this book. The writing. The plot. The currentness of everything in these pages. 2025 has been shaped by the rulers of Gilead. We are the Handmaidens.
Every woman should read this book. And then prepare themselves for the possibility of what might face us next.

    🐇 I couldn't put it down

By Margaret Atwood ,

Why should I read it?

46 authors picked The Handmaid's Tale as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

** THE SUNDAY TIMES NO. 1 BESTSELLER **
**A BBC BETWEEN COVERS BIG JUBILEE READ**

Go back to where it all began with the dystopian novel behind the award-winning TV series.

'As relevant today as it was when Atwood wrote it' Guardian

I believe in the resistance as I believe there can be no light without shadow; or rather, no shadow unless there is also light.

Offred is a Handmaid in The Republic of Gilead, a religious totalitarian state in what was formerly known as the United States. She is placed in the household of The Commander, Fred Waterford -…

Book cover of See How They Fall

Kirsten McKenzie ❤️ loved this book because...

Exceptional! Way more complex than your standard "rich girl champagne thriller".
Loved the characters and how you were never quite sure who was in the wrong and who wasn't. Certainly kept me on my toes. Loved the reveal at the end. Was NOT expecting that.
Well done to Rachel Paris. I look forward to reading more from her.

The Deadly Life of Diana Penn

By Shawn Inmon , Kirsten McKenzie ,

Book cover of The Deadly Life of Diana Penn

What is my book about?

All Diana Penn wanted was a quiet retirement. What she got was a chance to rewrite history.

When a demolition crew uncovers unexploded WWII bombs in a quiet Northumberland park, retired MI6 agent Diana Penn instantly senses danger. But before she can act, the bombs detonate.

Instead of peace, Diana wakes up in December 1944, in the body of her younger self: a Land Army girl posted in a seemingly sleepy English town. Beneath the wartime camaraderie and village gossip, predators lurk and suspicious activities hint at dangers far greater than German spies.

Armed with knowledge of the future and the instincts of a seasoned operative, Diana must race to prevent catastrophe. Because this time, dying isn’t the end—it’s only the beginning.

A gripping wartime thriller with a time-bending twist, The Deadly Life of Diana Penn is a powerful new addition to the acclaimed Middle Falls universe.
