My favorite read in 2025

Book cover of Run for the Hills

Kelly Bennett ❤️ loved this book because...

Confession: I love Kevin Wilson's books, they never disappoint, always surprise, and always have heart! RUN FOR THE HILLS proves the rule! He has a knack for picking just the right main character and catapulting them into off-the-wall situations, unusual, odd, interesting situations (would love to view a scan of Kevin's brain to see where they come from). RUN FOR THE HILLS is one of those I CAN'T STOP READING BECASUE I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT/DON'T WANT TO REACH THE END books.

What is this book about?

“A touching and generous romp of a novel . . . Wilson makes a bold and convincing case that every real family is one you have to find and, at some point, choose, even if it's the one you're born into.” — New York Times Book Review

An unexpected road trip across America brings a family together, in this raucous and moving new novel from the bestselling author of Nothing to See Here.

Ever since her dad left them twenty years ago, it's been just Madeline Hill and her mom on their farm in Coalfield, Tennessee. While it's a bit…

My 2nd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of Anita de Monte Laughs Last

Kelly Bennett ❤️ loved this book because...

Get ready for a ride! And an education! Xochitl Gonzalez somehow manages to meld a Film Noir who-done-it vibe with Latin rhythms and a Diego Rivera/Freda Callo-ish artist love-hate-love-mystery thriller with a coming-of-age as a Latinx artist navigating the complex, Ivy League Institutional world into a novel that is fascinating, educating, enlightening about Female Hispanic art and artists, enjoyable read.

1985. Anita de Monte, a rising star in the art world, is found dead in New York City; her tragic death is the talk of the town. Until it isn't. By 1998 Anita's name has been all but forgotten - certainly by the time Raquel, a third-year art history student is preparing…

My 3rd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of Bel Canto

Kelly Bennett ❤️ loved this book because...

There is a reason Ann Patchett is lauded as one of our best authors. The opening scene, which unfolds like an Action-Adventure Triller is so well-written--not one wasted word, flowery description, dialogue chain--it left me breathless and so tense I had to get up and move. From there, Patchett sculpt characters we come to know, and care so much about--each and every one of them--I wanted them all to live on happily-ever after! As a reader, I was so caught up in the story, I wanted to read faster and faster. As a writer, I wanted to stop and dissect it as BEL CANTO is a master class.

What is this book about?

Winner of The Women's Prize for Fiction and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.

The poignant - and at times very funny - novel from the author of The Dutch House and Commonwealth.

Somewhere in South America, at the home of the country's vice president, a lavish birthday party is being held in honour of the powerful businessman Mr. Hosokawa. Roxane Coss, opera's most revered soprano, has mesmerised the international guests with her singing.

It is a perfect evening - until a band of gun-wielding terrorists takes the entire party hostage. But what begins as a panicked, life-threatening scenario slowly evolves…

A collection of vintage photographs & quotes by Babe Ruth on Life: Hitting, Pitching, Striking Out, and Coming Back Swinging sandwiched between meaty biographical snippets, compiled with the Babe's great-grandson Brent Stevens and Stu Dressler. With forewords by Tom Stevens, Babe Ruth’s grandson, and Marty Appel, public relations director for the New York Yankees from 1973 to 1977, Out of the Mouth of Babe is filled with facts about the game, insights from other big leaguers, and the Colossus of Clout.
