First, as always, Matthew Forsythe's illustrations are enchanting. This quirky book takes unexpected turns that will surprise and amuse readers. I love that the child character is the only knowing character, stuck navigating a world made more ridiculous by the adult in her life.

What is this book about?
"Marvelous mouse-sized mischief for all ages." -Booklist (starred review)
From the creator of the acclaimed and beloved Pokko and the Drum comes an emotionally resonant, "richly imagined" (The Horn Book, starred review) picture book about trust, worry, and loyalty between a father and daughter.
Mina and her father live in a hollowed-out tree stump on the edge of a pond on the edge of a forest. Nothing ever bothers Mina, until one day, her father brings home a suspicious surprise from the woods.
Should Mina trust her father-or listen to her own instincts?
Heartbreaking and heartwarming story about a 11-year-old forced to grow up too quickly. The characters are so real you can't help but be invested in their journey. Hank is fiercly protective of his young sibling, which motivates most of his choices throughout the book. I cried through about 60% of the book, mostly at these characters abilities to remain compassionate after being severely wounded by life's hardships.
Everyone will be rooting for a happy ending for Hank, a boy struggling to hold his family together when his mom doesn't come home, in this gripping story from Newbery Honor winner Gennifer Choldenko.
“One of those rare and important books . . . Hank Hooperman may well be the most resourceful, courageous, and loving big brother in the history of children's literature.”—Katherine Applegate, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The One and Only Ivan

Exactly what are they learning in these 'schools'? We must find answers. But one thing's for sure. Whatever you do: Don't. Trust. Fish. Laugh along as you learn lots of fishy facts from a very suspicious narrator, who believes that there's something…
